Shameka Turner, MSW, LCSWA |
My name is Shameka Turner, I earned my Bachelors of Social Work from SUNY Buffalo State College in 2015 and my Masters of Social Work from Case Western Reserve University in 2018. I have worked with a wide range of populations in a variety of settings such as; community mental health centers, schools, and home based interventions. My experience with adults, couples, children and families have helped to fuel my passion of helping others in many different capacities.
As a clinician, I embrace a strength-based, person-centered perspective, and I borrow from many different theoretical bases for psychotherapy in aiming to understand and meet the individual needs of each person. Techniques that I utilize may include dialogue, psychoeducation, relaxation, reframing of negative thoughts, positive decision-making, role-play, mindfulness, or writing/art exercises. I work with individuals and couples experiencing stress from life-transitions, trauma, the LGBT+ population and those from a variety of cultural backgrounds. I believe that as we navigate this journey of life we need support to help with the different challenges we face. I look forward to providing that support in the best way to each client.
