ABOUT

Sue Ashe earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University in May 2017. She previously worked as an elementary school teacher and stay-at-home mother and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University (1991). As her children grew older, she was inspired to pursue her long-standing goal of graduate training in counseling, with a focus on helping individuals reclaim their sense of self and emotional well-being.

Sue is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC #13331) with extensive experience supporting adults impacted by relationship trauma, emotional abuse, narcissistic dynamics, and long-standing relational wounds. Her background includes work with severe and persistent mental illness, inpatient detoxification and rehabilitation programs, and community mental health settings serving uninsured and underinsured populations.

Her therapeutic approach is grounded in psychodynamic theory, emphasizing insight, self-reflection, and understanding relational patterns that contribute to emotional distress. She integrates evidence-based modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, bibliotherapy, and trauma-focused interventions. In addition, Sue is a trained Reiki Practitioner (Level II) and offers Reiki as a complementary treatment at Kelley Counseling & Wellness (KCW), supporting nervous system regulation, emotional healing, and mind-body integration.
