EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps people heal from emotional distress caused by disturbing or traumatic life experiences. Extensive research shows that EMDR can produce meaningful relief more efficiently than traditional talk therapy alone, challenging the belief that deep emotional pain must take years to heal. EMDR is grounded in the understanding that the brain has a natural capacity to heal psychological wounds, much like the body heals physical injuries.
When overwhelming experiences occur, the brain’s information-processing system can become disrupted, causing memories to remain “stuck” and continue to trigger emotional, cognitive, and physical distress. EMDR uses structured protocols and bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, to help the brain reprocess these memories and restore balance. As processing resumes, emotional intensity decreases and adaptive insights emerge.
At Kelley Counseling & Wellness, therapists trained in EMDR offer this approach to support trauma recovery, reduce symptoms, and help clients move forward with greater clarity, resilience, and emotional well-being.
