“The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.” -Walter Bagehot
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2011 from Campbell University, as well as my Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Campbell University in 2013. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (License #10647) and a National Certified Counselor. I completed my Master’s internship with a non-profit counseling agency, where I gained experience working with children & adolescents as well as their families. I also gained a large amount of experience working with couples and handling relationships concerns such as communication, intimacy, conflict resolution, lack of passion, etc. While completing my education, I worked as a Youth Director for nearly four years. Therefore, I have a great deal of experience working with children and youth, in a mentor-like relationship, building a safe and trusting relationship, while promoting growth and healing. With all of that said, I do enjoy working with a variety of individuals, no matter what age or what struggles they may be dealing with.
My areas of clinical expertise include, self-esteem issues, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, emotional/behavioral issues, parenting skills, spiritual growth/direction, career and/or academic success, communication/interpersonal skills, social skills, grief, loss, relationships, couples counseling, suicidality, emotion regulation, creative problem solving, borderline personality disorder, self-injury, and more. I use a Person-Centered approach while incorporating Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Techniques, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, as well as Creative and Expressive Arts, when appropriate and client preferred. I feel that the relationship is the most important part of counseling, and understand that no amount of skills/techniques can be effective until trust and rapport are the foundations of our therapeutic relationship. The pace of therapy is guided by your level of comfort, and the goals that we establish together. I work with individuals, couples and families. My personal interests are spending time with my husband and family, volunteering, mission & ministry to under served populations, photography, baking, creating, decorating, art, recycling, gardening, my cat, Cayenne Pepper and my dog Danny Duke.
